26 handsets is tricky, but DECT is
just a
phone, the PBXs they are talking about are multiple line systems. The ISDN
system that I use supports 8. I’d also assume that if you need that
many
handsets you are also likely to need more than 3 lines. You are going
beyond
the lines of domestic and SOHO there. I know that you can buy an extension to the Siemens
Hicom
PBX which will handle that many extensions. It has the added benefit that
you
can add as many lines to it as you need within reason. I’ve just been
doing some work with one that has four analogue and 2 ISDN channels, with
the
ability to handle up to 8 simultaneous calls!
I can put you in touch with a supplier
who
covers the whole of the UK, and I’ve been very impressed with.
One last thing, do you really need a
hand
set in each room? The whole point of DECT is that they are
cordless.
And surely, you are going to need more
than one line? ADSL can typically share the same line as Sky, and a fax,
and
more often than not is used as the “second line” in the
majority of
houses nowadays.
Typical handset cost is around 80
quid.
Re-reading through your post I think
you
are just being a bit ridiculous with the number of handsets (looking at 26
of
the things and at the same time being really cost conscious) . I’ve
just
installed an 8 extension ISDN DECT system in a house that is 55m from end
to
end. Three of the phones are portable handsets, and 5 are fixed. That works
well, and the total cost was around 850 quid.
Maybe there are other factors to
consider,
but I’ve spent a large part of the last week looking at phones, so I
can
probably answer most of your questions.

Subject: [ukha_d] PBX ADSL
DECT
... 26 handsets
I have worked out that I will probably need 26 telephones in my new
build -
so bang goes my REN of 4 !!!
I will hope to have ADSL installed in, and for
cost reasons this will be a
self install (wires only) as opposed to
engineer
install.
I also want the flexibility of
DECT.
Therefore a PBX with DECT seems
logical.
Few questions
According to pipex, their self install will
not
work with switching
equipment "ADSL is only available on a
standard BT telephone line
terminating via a standard BT telephone
socket.
ADSL will not work with any
type of telephone switch equipment." - is
PBX
switching equipment ?
If so can anyone recommend an ADSL wires only
provider who can use a PBX ?
Can anyone recommend a good value PBX/DECT
system
- new or secondhand ?
What is typical cost of handsets
?
Cheers
Umar
