I am writing a small application in VB to provide Caller ID display on the SliMP3 player that integrates with Outlook ( When & IF I finish this it will be freeware to UKHA members requiring a Meteor and SliMP3). Sorry Windows only, haven't got to grips with the penguin. When my Audiotron arrives I hope to support that too.

One of the things I would like to do is to augment the Perl source code  for the SliMP3 server (which I have but Perl is a new environment for me) to post events into Visual Basic probably through an ActiveX. Is there an easy way to do this ?  I have seen Active States Perl Developers Toolkit which allows you to build Active X controls with Perl but it costs a fair bit and I can't warrant that to give it away for free.

I had thought of just posting a network packet from the Perl app to VB which would seem to accomplish what I want - is this a sensible cheap, quick and dirty alternative??

Can I easily use COM/DCOM to send something from Perl to VB ? or again will I need to buy the toolkit.
