I've done exactly this, the cupboard I use has a normal height door and is
supposed to be for coats etc, so no bending down.  I have my patch panels,
Hub, Phone Line in there, and eventually this is were I'll terminate the
ADSL.  The rest of the cupboard is full of junk like the ironing board,
coats, carrier bags etc.

Well originally I bought a normal 32 way patch panel and mounted this on the
wall with two wooden batons, with the right side connected to a large hinge.
Each time I've run a few new cable drops, I un-bolt the left side, and the
hinge open on the right allowing me to access the rear of the patch panel.

Now that the patch panel is almost full, it has gotten harder and harder to
run the cables neatly so that they don't get trapped when I close the hinged
door.  Its ok though, you just need to leave enough length in the cable and
practice the opening and closing before your terminate the cable.  With
hindsight I should have left a bigger cap between the back of the patch
panel and the wall.

In an ideal world you would have rear access to the patch panel without
having to move it.  I didn't want to fill my cupboard with patch panel stuff
though.  I'll have to get some piccies done one day.
