Just to clarify, the CAT5 connection is effectively a headphone extension lead.
I was working in the principal that if the ground wire (in this case w/o & w/g
connected together) were cut there would be no sound. Using a relay as a switch
seemed to make sense. As this does not work as expected, I would imagine the
relays aren't the right sort as Ian described.

I can hear the relays switching over so I assume they are doing what they are
supposed to.
The thing that appealed to me about the SOM1 board was the expansion
capabilities using RS485. Will yours do that? Either way, I would be very
interested.

BTW, I don't like the way the relays are operated on the SOM1. You have to send
the status of all the relays when you want to change just one. I hope your unit
wont do that!
