Sounds
good to me. Can you start putting together a wish list of features. I will
be
using a PIC micro controller and a serial interface at up to 19200. I might
even
make the baud rate selectable. Think about things like the commands you
want to
send e.g. R1 on, R1 off etc. You might want an acknowledgement as well.
Lots of
fun.
I
am
trying to keep it simple initially so commands like R1 on for 1 hour then
xyz
will not be in the first release.

have ordered the PCB's so assuming no mistakes on my part boards will be
available from about the 9th September. I am away on hols for a little
before that ;-))

The relay board is opto isolated as well so none
of
that nasty AC stuff going anywhere near your precious PC.

When I was designing my relay board I initially
used reed relays which had some problems with things like capacitive
loads, AC etc. The relays on the SOM1 look very similar so you may be
experiencing similar problems. Check the relays are actually switching
off somehow with the speakers connected and showing the problems.
Alternatively use one of my boards <grin> which are rated up to
120v AC and everything else you can think of.

Loudspeakers use an AC signal, not DC. There is no
concept of a
common ground, so you can't switch it that
way.
