   It very much depends whether the new location is in the catchment
area of the same *physical* exchange (forget STD codes).

    If so then you can move the line.

    If not then it *can* be done, but at a price.  The phrase to use
is 'out-of-area number'.  This is a BT service (but not well known).
The cost depends on the distance between the exchanges involved.
