Cheers Chris!

The batteries in the Pronto are very susceptible to not being installed right ... when you drop them in you need to push the battery up against the springs at the IR emitter end of the Pronto and then let it drop back onto the charging terminals. The problem being that sometimes the two additional "sense" terminals don't make properly and the battery hence doesn't charge fully.

That pretty much covers most of the calls that we get about charging problems and generally we don't hear anything more.

Replacement batteries are listed by Philips as a spare part but last time I checked (which was about 6 weeks ago) the cost was such that once shipping and handling were taken into account it was pretty much the same price as a new dock!

You *CAN* use rechargeables but since they don't have the two additional sense terminals then the Pronto will just see them as normal batteries and won't make any attempt to recharge them - they'll have to be charged externally in a standalone charger.

What I do with my Pronto is have the charger on an appliance module which is only turned on from midnight on Sunday night until midday on the first Monday of the month - that way the battery isn't well excercised and if it gets low during the month (which never seems to happen) I can turn it on from either a mini-timer or >from actually do this with my Fujis and ePods plus Edwards digital camera too and it does stop the batteries getting fried by constant charging.)

Phil

I've been given a docking unit - but the battery never held its charge that long, and was thrown.

Anyone know where you can get a replacement ? And how much ?

Or can you use standard rechargables ?

Cheers
