I asked John Tankard the same question a while back here is his answer.....
 
"only difference is there is one set of freq's locked out <on the world cards> which allows them to work legaly in any country in the world, they say there is no performance advantage, further they say becuase of a freq range being locked out it means in a multiple AP location, the cards can only span 3 AP's where the normal cards can span 4. The only country near us with this problem is France."
