You can set most up this way.  Two cards will cost you nearly as much as the Netgear deal on Dabs for a proper access point though.

Are there any wireless products that are peer-peer ie not having to have an expensive Access Point ?

I need another two ORiNOCO cards at some point ... but for now I just swap
mine between my laptops and ePod.
