For the 5 hour limit to kick in you need to be on BTs TotalCare Service for
Megastream/Kilostream I think this is the default for digital circuits.

The 5 hour is not really a 5 hour fault clearance it is the point at which
the Reduced Charges Scheme (RCS) kicks in. Sort of the same thing but not
exactly.

The 5 hours starts from when you report it and it must be a complete loss
of
service.

If your circuit is on TotalCare or PromptCare then you shouldn't need to
apply for the reduction it should be automatic, for StandardCare you have
to
apply.

Couple of other wrinkles are that BT usually deduct it from your next
rental
payment, they don't usually give you the cash unless you cancel the
circuit,
also there are several exclusion clauses such as it being caused by
something outside of BTs control and it excludes circuits going abroad or
to
Kingston upon Hull etc.

For your outage you are probably looking at 10% off the annual rental plus
a
few quid per day IF you meet all the above conditions. The only way it will
be more is if you have several claims against the same circuit.
