I
gave
this link to Alan, because I found it incredibly useful in setting up my
NTL
cable modem and configuring my firewall - it gives you instructions for all
of
the IP addresses/ranges that should be added to your firewall to minimise
upset
by NTL.
There's also a wealth of troubleshooting tips
too.
One of
the sneakiest things that threw me when helping Alan, is that NTL don't
tell you
that the cable modem is 'locked' to the machine that was connected when it
was
turned on - thus you need to pull the plug from the modem so it can refresh
its
connection when connected to another machine.
With
Win2K, ICS really is quite easy - just check a box on the connection that
you
want to share and that's it. All client machines should *uncheck* the
"detect settings automatically" box under control panel > internet
options
> Connections > LAN settings. And that's
it.
If the
client machine cannot still get internet access, renew its IP address by
running
the following commands (start button > run) :
ipconfig /release (or /release_all on
win9x)
ipconfig /renew (or /renew_all on
win9x)
That
should be it.
Hope
this help others that are having trouble.
Regards,
-Dan
Glad
to hear yours is working.
Over
the time I have re-booted everything and it still does not
work.
I
actually think it is the fire wall as I am sure the settings elsewhere are
correct.
I'll
have another go later.

With Dan Khans help I have it all up and
running, it looks as though my main problem was that I did not reboot the
NTL cable modem, as such it still thought it was connected to my other
machine.
Best of luck

Help!
Is anyone about tonight who can give me
some help on the phone with setting up ICS on Win2K. I have been at
it all day with no joy, I've now put on a fresh install of Win2K and
would appreciate some guidance.
If someone would be good enough to mail me
with their number I will call them back.
Thanks
Alancc
