it's not 'free' but there is an unrestricted 30 day license you can
request via their site.

I've already read thingies response [sorry thingy, deleted the mail
before I noted who sent it] so I'll skip all but the USB question. As
far as I can remember v2.04 does not support USB, but v3 beta DOES. So
you might prefer to check out the beta to test your kit with it.
