Not thought of using a Abit KG7A RAID - AMD Northbridge and DDR RAM - MUCH better memory throughput - good for capturing..

[ukha_d] Final PVR Config
.
Category:

Folks,

I've narrowed it all down and ended up with the following config, I
appreciate the comments on the WinTV PVR but have decided to go for
it anyway ... if it's poo I'll send it back!

Abit KT7A-RAID Motherboard
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 MHz CPU
CoolerMaster Thunderbird Cooler
2 x 512 Mb Kingston DIMMs
Sony floppy (for bios updates eh Mark ;)
Asus 32MB V7100 with TV-Out
Haupp. WinTV PVR with IR
3 x Maxtor 80 GB HD U100, 5200 rpm
Creative Labs SB Live 5.1
Coolermaster ARC-101-SX Case

CD-Rom will be extracted from an old PC for installation and then
removed. The 3x80 GB disks will be set up as Raid 0 (giving me 1 big
240GB disk) Initially I may just use a 10 GB drive to install the OS
(Win2k) and then remove the CD and add the 3 Maxtors...

The machine will be out of the living room (probably too noisy) and
I'll either feed the signal (with a 'blocker') back into the RF
(using an old stereo VCR) distribution or use Kat5 to get it to the
living room... the only problem is the IR feed back to the PC. I have
limited Cat5 options. I suppose I could use Powermids as the distance
is not so great...

I do seem to remember seeing something somewhere about using RF
cables to send IR too.. but can't find any info :-(

All controlled from my Pronto...

Any final advice

Andy
