2.5mm cable or 79/0.2 if you prefer that notation is rated at 18A which
will
handle in excess of 1200W into 4ohms. To get that kind of current handling
using CAT5 would need 72 strands for each wire. Thats 144 strands in total
or 18 runs of CAT5.

79/0.2 is £39.99 per 100m from Maplin so that is 40p per metre
CAT5 is around £35 per 305 metres so 11 p per metre X 18 runs = £1.98 per
metre.

Hey !!! They are correct.... a one inch diameter bundle of CAT5 is cheaper
than speaker cable costing over a tenner a metre... but I think I will
stick
to under 40 pence per metre for my high current speaker cable measuring in
at just 3mm x 6mm.

I wonder how many runs of CAT5 I would need to replace the cable from my
car
battery to the starter motor. NAH!! Wouldnt work, I would have to take the
engine out to leave room for the bundle of cables  :-)
