I was about to suggest that XML was a bit OTT for a protocol of this type,
and that using our own encoding system (for transmission over the wire)
might
be better.

However, I'm a bit worried that were trying to define a protocol when we
dont
really know what we want to do with it, other than the brief outline of a
device in it's name.

Would we be better trying to spec out what we want each device to do, then
trying to tackle the problem, rather than defining a protocol & then
designing devices around that.

I'm just worried that without a clear vision of what we are trying to
acheive
we'll end up having to re-write the protocol at a later date, wasting all
this work we're doing now.
