Re: Basic stuff... my brain aint working



Your only sure fire way of knowing which is the permanant live and which is
the switched live is with a meter, testing from earth to each conductor.
Note that if you have an ELCB in your consumer unit, it may trip when when
you test to earth...so power down them PCs before you try it :-)

the difference between switched live and neutral is a load between
them....if for example you had a 60w bulb as the load and tried to use the
live side of the bulb as a neutral to another 60w bulb you would only have
120V across each one....another way of looking at it is, the switched live
only resembles a neutral when the circuit is broken i.e. it's floating

Bet the way i have explained it has confused you even more ;-)
