I'd _GUESS_ that the brown was live, and the black was live return


...and no, I can't explain the difference between live return and neutral.
I've had various people try to explain it to me, but never really seem to
get my head round it ;-(

Is it a single switch, or one part of a two-way switch?

I want to find out if they are both live or one is neutral...or whatever.
(I know there is an easy way to find out if they are live - but it
hurts!!!)

Why not get out the voltmeter ? Or at the least a neon tester ?

What are you try to achieve or determin ?
