Re: This Damn Country!

I am just about to do just that.

First up is a lamp module, a Magnavox unit which sells for $2.95 (not a
typo)
you can see why I took the chance.

This page:

http://www.geocities.com/ido_bartana/

has exact instructions-ish (I got the link from Mark's site)

I can see that the module on this guys page is >identical< to the one
I
have, even down to the colours and markings on the caps. My problem at the
moment is that I can't quite make sense of the schematic.

the instructions are really noddy:
1.. Change C1 (blue) from 0.68uF/250V to 0.33uF/400V.
2.. Change R1 from 100Ohm/0.5W to 220Ohm/1W.
3.. Change the 130V MOV to a 250V MOV.
4.. If not already so, change R2 from 330K/0.25W to 330k/0.5W
5.. If not already so, change R5 from 330k/0.25W to 330k/0.5w
6.. If not already so, change R10 from 100k/0.25w to 100k/0.5w
7.. if you have 240V, it would be safer to use a 600V triac. instead of
BTA10-400CW which is a 400V version.
8.. Use adaptors for the connectors on the input and on the output.

My modules already have a BTA10-600CW fitted, so, in theory, I am looking
at
replacing one capacitor, four resistors, and taking off the US Plug bits,
to
replace with a UK mains lead. not exactly rocket science, but I'll let you
know how I get on.
