Re: 24/7 static ip with Plusnet

Thought you might like to know Plusnet (aka. force9 and free-online)
www.plus.net are offerring
some quite attractive BT Surftime packages: 24/7 and off peak.

And now that I've signed up someone will tell me, there's better deals
elswhere no doubt?

Plusnet have put £2 million into their infrastructure and claim it's ready
to go with up for 500,000 users on June 1st 2000. Doesn't depend on ADSL
availablity. They do 24/7 and Off-Peak packages and offer static ip.
They say they won't be knocking people off-line after 2 hours either they
are using BT's collosus IP network for data only and is not sharing with
voice. When you sign up you need your BT account number and it does a check
on surftime availability. Tech Details: https://www.plus.net/network-p2.html

Their sales spiel:
PlusNet have anticipated this growth and have been watching closely the
development of the telecommunications infrastructure in the UK. Whilst we
have been busy consolidating our position as one of the most reliable and
feature-packed ISPs, BT have been developing a new Internet infrastructure
for the UK. They have code-named this project "Colossus" and an
appropriate
name it is too.

Colossus is a huge project, which will make the Internet so much faster and
cheaper to use. This new Internet network is just that, solely for the
Internet. No longer will your connection be slowed down because you are
sharing the system with normal voice calls. It is also more efficient for
BT, allowing us to offer you fixed price Internet calls and faster access.
To give you some idea of how much this is built for the future, the new
Colossus network will be 60 times faster than today's network and has the
capability to grow to 300 times the size.

It is easy to see then that Colossus is the future of Internet access in
the
UK and PlusNet have been one of the first UK ISPs to hook up to it,
bringing
you the benefits of fixed rate access to the UK's 21st Century Internet
backbone
