There was an interesting article in BA's January in-flight mag about an
"international communications company research centre" where
everyone
(and a lot of inanimate objects too) are kitted out with smart badges.
They're not voice-communicators, but do allow precise determination of
location.

Apparently they use the technology to determine which extension to
route incoming phone calls to, to locate missing overhead projectors,
control the airconditioning and lighting, determine whether a meeting
is in progress (many badges in same room) etc.etc.

Access to this technology in the home would have a lot of interesting
possibilities too...
