No. Depending on the design they can soak up signals from either side of
the filter.
A good filter should have chokes on the inputs to stop the interference
getting through followed by capacitors to short out the remaining
interference that got through.

Switch mode PSU's as used in PC's , TV's etc actually generate interference
by chopping up the mains supply so they tend to have a reversed filter to
prevent their self generated interference getting out. you may have seen
people mention that Sony TV's kill X10 signals dead.

When you get the problem just disconnect your HiFi gear from the mains
completely to see it that cures it. dont just switch the mains plug off as
most 13A sockets only have single pole switches and part of the circuitry
will still be connected.

I thought they only caused a problem if X-10 modules were plugged in to the
supressors? I'll have a bit of a problem unplugging the surpressors on the
Hi-Fi - they are built into 4, 4 way plugs!
