This is what I've been using for over a year- I took Dan Lanciani's
network socket CM11A interface (new version just out on=20
www.danlan.com/homeauto.html) and added a C CGI client to my Linux
Apache WWW server.

This gives sends simple commands from the WWW page to Dan's server
which in turn controls the CM12U (UK CM11A). I also use shell scripts
and cron (standard Unix timer program) to control the same interface.

Simple, reliable, and gives platform independant access.

My next big plan is to write up a general network protocol for home
auto and put together a set of servers for X10, hardwired boards (e.g.
8255 PIO cards), light sensors, IR, etc.=20

The key idea is to inteface the specific hardware to a general network
interface so you can add clients anywhere in any language- C, Java,
anything that can open a TCP/IP connection and say "set 3 on".

If you want the C and HTML for my client, drop me a line.
