There seems to be quite a lot of activity in this area. My own HA
platform is Linux, but there is quite few MP3 jukeboxes for DOS &
Windows as well. Some even have IR interfaces but I'd thought that one
of the many 'remote mouse' thingy's could be persuaded to send a
keyboard macro.=20

Maplin does one for =A325ukp with a mouse and many buttons- anyone tried
the 'Net Shooter' (LS40T)?

Mark McCall got me looking at this (cheers Mark) and here are a few
links he suggested:
http://drome.access.nu/mp3box/default.htm
http://web.inter.nl.net/users/JWA.VanDorsten/irmp3.htm
http://www.nexus.carleton.ca/mp3/
http://users.cybercity.dk/~ccc19386/zoft/mp3jukebox.htm

My own browsing (I don't surf- damit I'm English!) has unearthed these
links:
Martinus Bos has developed a plugin for WinAmp to give IR control via
a bit of hardware:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Sector/3863/infrared.html
This comes with C++ source, so hacking a WinAmp interface for anytning
is possible.

There was annother but sadly the site has been removed.

=46or Linux, "Using The Sajber Jukebox with ir remote controls"
is a
nice set of patches for Lirc whih gives IR Rx and Tx via a kernel
module:
http://home.allgaeu.org/pangelo/

If you need room-to-room relaying of IR, then the "IR Remote
System"
is the simplest DIY project I've seen:
http://web2.airmail.net/jsevinsk/ha/ir.html

Getting feedback on your actions (other than via the speakers playing
the wrong song) seems more challenging.

=46or Linux, Ldcproc drives a small off the shelf serial LCD module:
http://lcdproc.omnipotent.net/index.php3

I've seen this as a possible home auto user interface as the module
can have a keypad added. As the interface is serial, it could be
programmed by any system and, say, give a control panel next to the
front door. The down side is the module is ~$100.=20

A surplus LCD, 6 switches and a PIC can probably do this for =A320ukp,
but so far the project is no more than the PIC and LCD programming
details sitting on my hard drive.=20

As ever, I get more ideas than time ;-)
