Give Geoff Cronin a call, he is local to you, and has repaired quite a few for me in the past, you never know.

GAC Video Services, he is in the book, if not, I can dig it out from somewhere :/

This was a large, well known local company specializing in PC repairs.  Their standard charge is £75 + VAT to fix a 17” monitor and I was prepared to pay that as it’s based on a Sony tube and is a decent monitor.  I have recently bought a couple of Philips ones at 125 inc VAT but they weren’t a patch on this gateway one.

Who told you that?

A computer shop or a TV repairer.

A good TV repair shop should be able to source a transformer if they are still available from other sources (might be pattern parts available). Failing that you have no hope. Probably not cost effective anyway. Transformer will probably be more than a tenner and labour charges of £35-£40 per hour. That'll set you back half the cost of a new 17" monitor and you will have one that is two years old.

sad but true unfortunately.

We’ve just been told that one of our 17” Gateway monitors is not able to be repaired because a replacement “fly-back transformer” is no longer available..  The monitor is only two years old and it seems a shame just to dump it like this.

Anyone know where I could try for the part before writing it off?

Thanks

M.
