[KAT5] KAT5 and SPDIF?

I'm gonna buy a set of KAT5's soon. At first I will only be able to
use composite video and stereo audio. My hope is to someday be able
to use s-video (since RGB takes up too many pairs:-) and SPDIF
(surround) audio.
I've heard that KAT5 can be used for SPDIF, but will a "basic"
KAT5
AVS-TX+RX be able to transmit the SPDIF over one of the "audio"
channels or will I need a new, customized KAT5 when I get an SPDIF-
enabled amplifier?
