I've heard that the HA industry numbers, which get their biggest "pump" from
installations in new homes, are looking grim - just like the housing
industry. What an unfortunate time to come to market with a new, improved
version of HomeSeer. I didn't see anything in the zControl feature list
that isn't doable with existing gear. No "killer app" in other words.
All of these conflicting and confusing Zwave, Zigbee, Insteon, UPB
"standards" make the HD v. BluRay fight look positive tame. Until a truly
open standard evolves, free of patent constraints and incompatibilities, HA
is going to be a niche market.
I suspect the housing downturn and the threat of devastating litigation may
cause the shakeout of more than one player in the HA market. About the only
thing I'm sure of is that it won't be X-10.
