I'd say "or what!" (-:  My guess is that it's smoke blown by the card
companies to make people feel more secure but it's not terribly effective.
I have merchants ask me for the 800 telephone number on the back of the card
as well as the CVV2.  Why would they ask for those if they weren't going to
store them?
