Humidity is really just two temperatures, dry and wet.
Why not just get two temp sensors and a piece of cotton and some water?
The formula is trivial.

A cool hack would be to use some ZigBee boards, the TI processor
has a temperature sensor. Don't know what the prices are
at hobby volumes.
