Media Center Infrared Keyboard not working

Hi... I have windows media center installed... when I go to my computer
-> Properties, it says

Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

I have installed the
Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB912067)

I have a USB based infrared receiver plugged into my PC

However, Windows does not respond to any keys on my keyboard.  What can
I try next?
