I ran across something similar last year where a trunk slammer
installed and NX8 panel with two wire smoke detectors in all of the
required locations.  The guy home ran all of the detectors to the
panel and then wired them in SERIES with the EOL resistor wired across
the zone.  Thank goodness he ran 4 conductor FPL wire to all of the
detectors.  UGH!!!!
