The activation fee and 1st quarter monitoring fee should cover or come close
to covering the equipment costs, the 2nd quarter monitoring fee should come
close to paying for the labour, so sometime between the 2nd & 3rd quarter
you are in the black and making money. If you take into account that there
is very little cost to making the sale, no salesman commissions, no door
knocking, cold calling, ambulance chasing or the like, then it looks to me
like a reasonable way to build your recurring revenue base, especially if
you are a start up company with few customers and even fewer referrals
coming in.

So what if you have to replace the batteries after 2 or 3 years, there is
probably only one or two wireless door sensors, a wireless motion sensor &
the panel battery- how much does that add up to?

If your sales skills are not strong, then spending a day putting a couple of
those systems in with an almost guaranteed return on your time, is probably
a better use of your time than spending a day making sales calls with no
guarantee of anything..
