Been there, done that, have the tee shirt. For me its lasted since December
23, 1983. Today I can't even risk opening a checking account. Where do I
start with my nightmare tale? I had a bum steal from me. I reported it to
the police within 4 hours. They never investigated a thing on my behalf or
tried to catch him. But after years of forging blank checks that he took
from me, some burned merchants got fed up enough to pressure the Rangers and
they finally caught him. They caught him with all my stuff, fake ID, the
whole nine yards. He confessed. BUT there was something illegal that the
Texas Rangers did to poor Dennis Busha and they had to set him free. SO
WHERE DO YOU THINK THE LAZY DUMB ASS POLICE POINTED ALL THE BAD CHECKS BACK
TOO? THAT'S RIGHT, ME! I can't tell you how many times I have been hauled
off to jail for that idiot whenever he writes one more. I can't tell you how
much it has cost me in lawyer fees. You know what the laws are in Texas
about working in this industry. You want to know how many times I have been
in front of the (old) Board so they could personally see his poorly faked
signature on some check written for less than $25.00, just so I would be
allowed back to work? And Federal Crime? Sometimes it seems like I am not
any closer to getting all this straight with the IRS than when I started, I
just know more agents in different offices. Well you can cry me a river
about your hard luck story. So on a lark you reached in and rattled Bass'
cage and pulled back a stump. So what. It didn't cost you anything but your
pride for having the old goat get the better of you. And all that other
stuff he is reported as having done is somewhere between a bad joke and
unscrupulous behavior. If you think you have a case bigger than that call
the police, or call a lawyer. Good luck Either could give Bass a course in
rotten he never be able to finish. If you want to find the person in your
life giving you the most trouble just look in the mirror. He's right there
looking back. If you think that old man fighting for his life worries at all
about you, or what you think of him, you have way over estimated your
importance in his life. Sure he changed. Maybe if you did a little "due
diligence" yourself you'd find that people do change when they get their
brain soaked in chemo. But despite that setback it sounds like he has a life
that he is happy with and I am glad for him. I wish I could say that about
you. I hope I can some day. In his current situation you couldn't pile
anything on Bass that would concern him. The only safe bet is you'll
probably out live him. Then what? Are you going to dig him up and demand an
apology or are you going to wait in the cemetery and tell everyone who
passes by what he did to you that you simply can't get over. You know this
reminds me of that old bromide about; "Why are academic's feuds always so
bitter? Because there is so little at stake."
