Yup, Uplink by Telalink is the only backup device I use personally. It
only sends generic fire and burg but that is all that is needed for
backup.
 I was looking at the new DSC unit but they want a year contract on
that so I nixed that in a hurry. Now it seems they are also having
problems with the device.

Telalink have a good deal on now for replacement of their older analog
Uplink devices. Might pay to take a closer look.
