Just in case you come across another, you might want to try the
following.

When you pull out the old battery, short out the connectors that touch
the battery terminals. I don't know how the circutry is set up but
many times it's just that the voltage hasn't actually reached zero. I
guess there's someithing in these units that requires that the new
battery restart the low bat sensing circuit from zero. It may or may
not work but it's worth a try .
