Re: Brinks as stand-alone alarm

Brinks owns the "basic" system....3 doors, 1 keypad, 1 motion, siren, and
the panel....
any other equipment purchased or already in the house is yours.
If the sales rep says you own ANY of the basic system AT ANY TIME, he is
either lying, or he has no clue.
However, you can purchase the equipment for $500, but none of the equipment
will be under
any kind of warranty....as long as Brinks own the equipment, it is
guaranteed for LIFE!!!!
Brinks WILL NOT change anything in the contract...there are 3 options on the
contract..1, 2 or 3 years...you must
give them at least 6 weeks notice if you want to cancel the contract at the
end of the term...
Brinks put the first 2000 panel out around 1995, but every year it has been
updated.... if this system was
put in back in 2001, it is probably a 2000f panel...
Brinks now has the 3000c panel...
all of the 2000(a,b,c,d,e,f,) and 3000(a,b,c) panels have the remote option
all of the 2000(a,b,c,d,e,f,) and 3000(c) panels have wireless options
ALL of Brinks' panels are proprietary....
none of them can be programmed at the keypad...without the correct
programmer, it's pretty much useless....

Read the contract carefully. Most alarm contracts, the initial term is 2 or
3 years then they will automatically renew for terms of 1 year after that,
IF you don't cancel in writing with a 30 day prior notice. Not unusual. Just
make sure that something to that effect IS in the contract and that you
remember to cancel within their time period.

That being said...I'm not sure I've ever heard of a BHS 2000, so you may
want to look at the box or IN the box to see what you really have there. It
may be a private labeled Ademco panel (or something else). AS LONG AS IT'S
NOT some Proprietary alarm panel manufactured JUST for Brinks, you should be
ok.

BUT... Make sure (have them put it in the contract) That they will unlock
the programming for you for free after you cancel monitoring with them. They
will have to deprogram the dialing portion of the progamming anyway...make
sure that they don't lock the programming after that.
