Hi Tony

I wonder why they choose non standard function codes when Phillips have a
well defined list that is consistant across different types of product
where
possible.

I discovered yesterday that the "toggle" bit is only important if
you press
the same key again. I used two remote handsets and got them both to the
state where they had just send a "toggle=1" command. I used the
first one to
fire a "1" at the TV and it changed channel. Tried the second
remote to send
a "1" and the first press of the button was ignored because the
toggle bit
was the same. the next press worked as the togle bit was then different.

I then re-synced the remote handsets and again sent a "1" to the
TV. It
worked. I then used the other remote and sent a "2" which also
worked
because the function was different so it didnt care about the toggle bit

RC5 has 6 bits for the function giving 64 possible codes.
RC5X uses the second start bit as the 7th function bit to extend this to
128
codes whilst still being compatable with vanilla RC5.

Which I would hope to be the case. you dont want to start doing unexplained
things just because of a misread or falsely received IR code!

By "ignores it" I assume you were hoping that the firmware would
register
the fact that "xx" had been received before ignoring it.

> or switches the MVP off!

Do you know just how many people try to find the discrete "OFF"
codes :-)

>Shame, could really of done with mapping an unused code

Yep. At work we had a projector that I wanted to control via the serial
port
but the main functions that I had problems with were

"MUTE" - audio mute
"CURTAIN" - blue screen (video mute)
"LAMP" - basically turning the projector on or off

which were only toggle functions rather than distinct OFF and ON.

We had an upgrade to the projector and the command set had been updated to

"MUTE" (toggle), "MUTE 0" (mute off), "MUTE
1" (mute on)
"CURTAIN" (toggle), "CURTAIN 0" (blue screen off),
"CURTAIN 1" (blue screen
on)
.... and ....
"LAMP" (toggle)

The one function that we desperately needed discrete ON and OFF commands
for
wasnt added. If it was accidently turned off you had to wait 5 minutes
before it could be turned back on again.

The joys of Automation :-(

Regards

Keith
