xPLMediaNet and Playlists

Hi all,

Need some advise and/or suggestions please.

I'm trying to remove the reliance on a database from xplmedianet as far as
possible

Currently media.dll needs it (this scans tracks and hold statistics, like
the old scanner - but not playlists etc)

Also mediaquery.dll uses it. Not to store the queries, but to access the
statistics and be able to match them to tracks in the database (or you can
use it with any database that can supply track names without statistics)

But what to do with playlists?

A) Should they be stored in the database?

B) should the files be stored in specific playlist files only folders and
read on the fly?

If 'A' should we store both the file and contained tracks, or just playlist
names/paths for reading on the fly?

'A' has the advantage that the list of playlists can be accessed very
quickly, but relies on a database (of some sort)

'B' has the advantage of being free from the database, but needs more disk
access (slower) when playlist menu being used

'B' needs to be specific folder(s), as trying to scan sub-folders looking
for files would take too long...

Thoughts please?

Many thanks
Tony
