xPLMediaNet - How best to implement Software Players
- Subject: xPLMediaNet - How best to implement Software
Players

Hi all,
Ian reminded me that xPLMediaNet needs support for software players (e.g.
winamp, wmp) to attach
Was wondering the best way to implement this?
xPLRioNet did it as a stream url off of the web server. It identified the
player by it's IP address, which meant only 1 player per pc could attach.
And the client automatically generated would remain until xPLRioNet was
stopped/started.
As there appears to be no way to tell if a connection from a particular pc
is 1 or more winamp's I think it needs to take a different approach. Unless
someone knows some way of telling?
My current thought is that instead of each player becoming a device, that
when a player attaches it causes a shoutcast style stream to be created,
an=
d
if the client disconnects (I _think_ I can detect this) then the client
would automatically be killed off... Still not sure how to generate a
uniqu=
e
device name though, maybe just player1, player 2 etc - but not sure how
you'd tell which was which if you have a lot?
That's as clear as mud probably!
Any thoughts/comments please?
Many thanks
Tony
