When you say "the manager seems to disappear for seconds at a
time"
what do you mean by that ?  The window disappears ??
If you find that your lamp is not responding fast enough then that may
be related to X10 itself.  It is a rather slow protocol.

Which X10 service did you install (more out of curiousity ;-)
