Actually an example I wrote over a year ago now for the 'how to's' was
on exactly this topic - how to display xPL callerID using the xPL to xAP
bridge and a xAP OSD popup application called xAP Watcher.    Have a read

Things have moved on a bit now though and xAP Desktop offers sexier
display options.   I'll put that on the list as another example - but as
everyone is finding it's very difficult to shorten these lists - so many
things to play with !
