i've been busy for the past 9 years doing this stuff ;) i got the
timecommander+ about 8 or 9 years ago. it was pretty much the only
thing out there at the time. i've been slowly adding stuff, but in
the last few years i've been doing a lot. the jds stuff has been
pretty reliable, although the firmware updates for the tc+ have pretty
much stopped since they started focusing on the stargate. the bundled
software is terrible and that's a major reason i use starCOM, which i
spent a lot of time beta testing.

i only have xantech ir receivers & some connecting blocks. all the
other stuff is quite pricey but i'm very happy w/ the gear i have. it
was pretty much plug & play over my cat-5 wiring.

the hal deluxe i got on clearance for $9 because i wanted to integrate
telephony w/ my system. the voice recognition is a bonus. it's kinda
big & slow though & not open at all. for what i want to do,
i'd have
to upgrade to hal 2000 & hali. i have installed xpl_phone &
may start
implementing that for some things instead of hal.

as far as xpl'ing stuff, i've been using the beta for xplrionet.
that's going well after a few hurdles. i've also slowly added tts &
osd & have been using sendxpl to generate commands from my starCOM
scripts (i've been urging the author to add xpl support to starCOM :)

i'm constantly upgrading stuff. it's never ending :)
