Hop is incremented whenever an xpl message passes over a bridge (e.g.
xpl_bridge, xpl_devcom in bridging mode - the default mode)

When a hop >10 the message gets discarded to prevent a udp storm

Really you shouldn't be looking for hop= anything in particular, as it's
value is irrelevant to the receiver.

You must send messages with hop=1 though.
