Important xplhal update

  • Subject: Important xplhal update

Hi all,

Have just published updates to the Service/Exe versions of xPLHal at
www.xplhal.com

All downloads (inluding the new xPLHalExeUpdate.zip) include the latest
xPLHal Manager

There are 2 main changes,

1) Binary data files replaced with XML files

This change has several advatages such as being able to read the contents
of
the datafiles and easily amend if necessary

On start xPLHal will convert your existing binary data files
(xplhal_events.bin, xplhal_globals.bin and xplhal_x10cache.bin) into XML
files (xplhal_events.xml, xplhal_globals.xml and xplhal_x10cache.xml). The
original files will be renamed with a .old extension.

Please note that, depending on configuration, the xplhal service version
may
shutdown as soon as the conversion is complete - just restart it.

2) Fix for configuration system

A problem arose from the last changes in this area relating to
configuration
of multiple copies of the same vb6 xpl application

As such, the use of 'DEFAULT' (the default instance of vb6 xlp app's) is
now
not permitted to be the actual instance of any device or application. The
latest xPLHal manager includes a modification to prevent devices/app's
being
assigned 'default' as an instance.

Existing devices/app's configured with an instance of 'default' will
continue to function normally, but it is advisable to reconfigure each of
these with a new instance. You should also delete any config/current files
(in data\configs and data\current) for devices/apps with an instance of
'default'.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

At some point I will issue updated versions of all the vb6 app's and
frameworks designed to generate a random (unique) default instance. This
will allow, where required, multiple versions of the same app to be
launched
prior to configuring each. E.g. where it is required to roll out multiple
copies and configure later.

Regards
Tony
