Thanks for all your help.

It looks like the best way for me to proceed is to get a server app (maybe
the web interface controlled through a TV?) to get the Rio to play a single
track or album at a time and only ever use the built-in menu/remote to
select ShoutCast streams.

I use the Apache web server at the moment, so I'll look into whether it can
handle external dlls.....
