No it doesn't, unless you have working caller id on the modem...

If you don't have caller id working on the modem it relies on you using a
separate caller id unit (e.g. meteor).

Without actual caller id it would be just a dumb answering machine, and I
didn't see much point in that. Though I guess it could make sense to send a
dummy callerid message (with no number) so it can be used without callerid
info?

Thoughts?

The expected sequence is

Caller id from modem/Meteor sends message

Xplhal makes a decision whether to answer based on callerid

Xplhal sends a message to answer etc
