I'm ashamed to say that I have two hubs neither of which has ever been
powered up.

But having said that I did have one in my hand the other night and was
looking at the RJ45 wiring. I also was reading a maxim pdf about how to
poll a DS2409 branched network just yesterday.

Have you tried the xPL_owtemp app? It doesn't support the hubs but does
report all 1-wire temperature sensors on a single 1-wire network.
