Hi Patrick
I have also found out about a newer 3.4" display coming from a German
company that will be colour with touch so I am looking at that for the
future too. I think it has the micro on it but I believe there will be an
SPI option coming out too. Once I know this is commercial, I'll post it
here. This looks like it could be a nice little HA project device. My
design
is for cheap and cheerful and I can install as many as I need.
As for the ADS7846, both TI and Analog Devices do a device that appears to
be compatible with each other. Here is the TI link.
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/ads7846.html
The display I am using is 8 bit parallel data with 2 chip selects. You can
hook this up to the Rabbit quite easily if you enable the external data
bus.
I have the RCM5450W here which is a bigger version of the one you have. I
have a foot print in my CAD system for the RCM5600W series, the mini PCI
ones. I assume you mean you have the RCM5600W?
I like your idea for the Perspex as I can get some very nice Perspex panels
made up from Front Panel Express and they look great. I think I might make
up something for these displays now that you have shown a good idea for
making them solid looking.
Regards
Dave...

Subject: {Disarmed} Re: [xap_automation] Min Touch Screen module
Hi Dave,
This looks very nice! I've been playing with something similar - but with a
slightly bigger screen, and without touch (I am going with capacitive
sensors around edge of screen bezel), based on the newish rabbit micos wifi
controllers (RC5500W) - I had a quick scout for a datasheet on the ADS7486,
but drew a blank - any pointers? I'm guessing there isn't scope in your
design for a half populated (processor-less) board exposing an SPI
interface
to the display?
PS. Re. perspex front panels - if you paint clear perspex from behind with
aerosol paint, you get a really nice professional looking finish
"through"
the perspex.
Cheers
Patrick
