SqueezeCentre Plugin - Not Displaying Messages Query

I'm running the new SqueezeCentre plugin (v2.3b2 23-Dec-08) against
SqueezeCentre Version: 7.3.1 - 24372 @ Fri Dec 19 17:56:44 PST 2008.

(Just noticed there is a b3 version available a day later but the
noted changes don't seem to be in the area of my query below.)

Since installing it, I have not been able to get it to display
messages on my Squeezebox.  Prior to installing the recent
SqueezeCentre and this plugin, I had the older Slim Server and the
older xAP plugin working and displaying messages ok.

Squeezecentre plugin is running ok and I can see appropriate
heartbeats and status messages.  For example:

But messages are not displayed.  A couple of examples taken directly

I'm a bit puzzled on this as formatting seems ok and I cant see
anything to suggest that the plugin itself is not operating.
