HI Kevin,

=20

Sorry for my late reply. Just back from holiday.

=20

I am using the MaxStream Zigbee pro modules which have the higher power. I
live in an apartment block with steel reinforced concrete walls and I
already see a drop in signal with standard WiFi and numerous issues with
Zwave due to this so is the reason I went for the higher power units. I am
also out here in Indonesia and getting certain items is not so easy. It
jus=
t
so happens that my local electronics company here stocks the MaxStream Pro
parts at a very reasonable price.

=20

I would be happy to let anyone have the board designs. I won=92t be able to
supply completed working boards as I have already found few people
interested enough to purchase from Indonesia but I will offer the design
files.

=20

I have 2 designs right now, one is a simple USB to Zigbee module with built
in microcontroller and onboard power supply etc. The reason for the micro
is to handle the Zigbee network and avoid having too much code on the PC.
This way others can consider using it with Windows, Mac or Linux etc. It
uses the standard FTDI chip module UB232 to make PCB design simple.

=20

The other design is a complete microcontroller module with TFT LCD Display
and the Zigbee module and of course power supplies. I am using the
ATMega2561 based board from www.display3000.com to give me a nice
programmable display interface. This is a great little module. The board
ha=
s
a simple analog joystick along with an ADC to read it. I opted not to use
the built in ADC on the ATMega as I include the JTAG interface as I prefer
this for debugging and testing over simple ISP programming as this limits
testing.

=20

I=92ll post some stuff up on my website once I get it working. For now I
ne=
ed
to try and get my PC software just to talk to Homeseer with the xAP plugin
and see if I can set and control the devices. Once this is done I will work
on the embedded stuff.

=20

Once I start on the PC stuff I am sure I will have lots of questions for
th=
e
group.

=20

PS.. Which website is the best to get all the latest xAP developers
information?

=20

=20

Regards

Dave...

=20

Hi Dave, and welcome.

First of all apologies - this message seems to have eluded the=20
Yahoo moderation system and so sat sad and lonely over Xmas - I only=20
just saw it .

Your project sounds really interesting and I'm preferring ZigBee=20
over Z-Wave - in fact I have a couple of ZigBee devices but I am not=20
sure just at the moment if their implementation is standard. There's=20
those 'Alert Me' ZigBee power monitor plugs appearing soon too for =A325=20
and if they worked that would be great. . Are you using the MaxStream=20
ZigBee modules - and if so which versions I wonder. I had some earlier=20
ones but they didn't mesh well - I understand later ones whilst now able=20
to mesh are incompatible with those earlier ones.

Re the xAP plugin for HomeSeer - there are actually three , the mcs=20
ones being the most actively maintained. Using xAP means you don't=20
need to write a HomeSeer plugin, and if you implement the xAP BSC (v1.3)=20
schema then the devices are automatically recognised and can just be=20
enabled in HomeSeer. Indeed this also applies to any HA application=20
that has a xAP plugin - so automatically you would have support within=20
HomeSeer, HouseBot, MisterHouse, Premise (?), Charmed Quark, Cortex,=20
xLobby, xAP Floorplan, OPNMax etc as well as all other xAP=20
applications. You can use other schema too with a lot of these=20
applications. I don't know whether you intend to have some of your=20
boards available to others (I know I'd be interested) but it's nice to=20
get such a wide range of application support provided without writing=20
any of the plugins..

Do keep us posted and ask away with any questions you have. There=20
are some forum posts on xAP v1.3 here and in the developer forum (most=20
significant change being the UID field expansion) and , if you do=20
implement the BSC schema then this has some fairly obvious follow=20
through to the ID=3D field handling.

Cheers Kevin

xLobby, xAP Floorplan, OPNMax etc as well as all other xAP
applications. You can use other schema too with a lot of these
applications. I don't know whether you intend to have some of your
boards available to others (I know I'd be interested) but it's nice to
get such a wide range of application support provided without writing
any of the plugins..

Do keep us posted and ask away with any questions you have. There
are some forum posts on xAP v1.3 here and in the developer forum (most
significant change being the UID field expansion) and , if you do
implement the BSC schema then this has some fairly obvious follow
through to the ID=3D field handling.
