it appears the jabber connection is alive.  i can't really tell what
the intervals are though.  maybe the interval can be configureable in
settings.txt?  maybe may what it sends configurable too? :P  the user
can choose one or the other?  unless you figure out what works better.
although i guess the xstatus would be better than getting 'hello'
messages on my client every so often.
